Of Carriers and Barriers is an Artist Collective based in Lahore, Pakistan. It aspires to
address a single concern through two interconnected ways. First, to
initiate exploratory conversations about the nature of connection humans
have with the objects they produce for aesthetic, emotional or
functional purposes. There is a need to study and appreciate how objects
coexist, augment human capacities, and become our instruments of
understanding the larger questions. We should analyze if these products
merely partner with us, or end up governing and shaping our current
realities?
Second, to create exhibition platform for thoughtful makers who are inquisitive and sensitive about the purpose, process and material realities of their practices. The Collective intends to invite makers from various disciplines to share their unique points of view and works alongside artists, designers and craftspeople, in an effort to explore multidimensional approaches toward the act of shaping material into newer forms.
Founding members of the Collective are Muhammad Umar, Kamran Babrak and Shazia Mirza, who occasionally invite guest collaborators to work with them on selected projects.
